As we move farther into 2014 and closer to our first event of the year, I wanted to take a bit of time to reflect on what RT SideQuest accomplished in 2013.
Just under one year ago, we started selling tickets for our biggest event ever, RTX SideQuest 2013. Thanks to all of you, it was indeed our biggest and most successful event to date, with over 350 people attending our three main events of the weekend. We brought in our first class of Spectres, who were rock stars and absolutely saved the lives of the RTSQ core staff. As in 2012, we raised another $10,000 at our pre-RTX Cocktail Party and Charity Auction that we donated to Child’s Play Charity.
We also had our first experience running a booth at a convention during RTX, and managed to make $2,500 for Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas through donations for things like bandanas, shirts, buttons, and other fun things that helped you show everyone at RTX that you support the charitable efforts of RT SideQuest!
RTX wasn’t our only event of the year though! In the first half of the year we hosted our second annual PAX SideQuEAST at Lucky’s Lounge. For a small, intimate gathering of about 20 people, it was a huge success!
We had a great time with RT/AH trivia, and we plan to return to Lucky’s Lounge this year for another PAX SideQuEAST. Details coming soon…
Unfortunately we weren’t able to host a PAX PrimeQuest this year, due to various circumstances. But we plan to return to Seattle in 2014 better than ever!
In lieu of PrimeQuest, we hosted our first RT SideQuest for Extra Life, a 25-hour gaming marathon where we raised over $3,700 for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals around the world! We even had a generous corporate sponsor match our contribution, so ultimately RT SideQuest was responsible for raising close to $7,500 for Children’s Miracle Network!
We couldn’t have had a successful Extra Life event without the good people of RvB:TX, and we look forward to working with them more in the future! You can bet that we’ll be doing Extra Life again this year! In fact, you can already join our team!
In addition to all the fun and charitable things, we also had some developments on the less-fun business side of things. In addition to becoming a registered non-profit corporation in the state of Texas and creating a board of directors, we’re also in the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization with the IRS, which will open up more opportunities for us in the future as far as finding sponsors and donors goes. We hope to have that process complete in the first half of this year!
Going forward, we hope to do even more to connect the RT community and charitable causes. Here’s a little taste of what we have planned for the upcoming year:
Early in 2014 we’re going to (finally) put a tiny bit of new paint on this website, and make it a bit more user friendly. We’ve gone through a variety of different organizational schemes and such when posting content, so things are a bit unorganized. However, we’re going to tidy things up and make everything a bit easier to find.
We’re also going to announce and host a BRAND NEW event early this year that we’re pretty excited about. If you’re a fan of trivia, you’ll want to keep an eye out for what we have in store. That event will hopefully be finalized and announced within a few weeks.
As mentioned above, we’re planning to return to Lucky’s Lounge for PAX SideQuEAST 2014, but in a slightly different way. We’re hoping to unify our PAX SideQuests in a way that makes a bit more sense. Hopefully we can finalize those details and announce something soon.
And of course, like many of you, we’re gearing up for RTX 2014. We’ve got lots of ideas on how to improve our events, but can’t give any of them away just yet. Rest assured, RTX SideQuest will be bigger and better than ever in 2014! Look for a bigger and better auction, a revamped BarLympics, and of course a return trip to Salt Lick!
To sum up, in 2013 the Rooster Teeth community helped RT SideQuest raise nearly $20,000 for charities that benefit children! We raised $10,000 for Child’s Play, $2,500 for Make-A-Wish, and close to $7,500 (after matching) for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. In 2014, we’re going to aim a bit higher: We want to bring in at least another $10,000 for Child’s Play so we can maintain our status as a platinum sponsor, we want to donate $5,000 to Make-A-Wish so we can be a “Wish Maker” and directly grant a child’s wish (Possibly one to visit the RT offices?), and we want to bring in over $5,000 with our Extra Life team before any kind of corporate matching. Aim high, hit higher!
To close, we want to thank all of YOU for supporting us! We couldn’t do any of what we’ve done over the years without the support of everyone who donated time, goods, or money at our events. All of this was possible only with the help of our many generous sponsors and supporters, as well as everyone who attended the events we hosted. Everything we do is to benefit the community and charity and we hope you’ll continue to support our efforts in the years to come.
Happy New Year everyone! Enim Filii!
